Exciting Update! Courtney Kemp ’98 has confirmed she will join our discussion panel of distinguished Hollywood writers on January 21st. Courtney is an Emmy nominated and highly regarded creator, showrunner, writer, and producer behind the STARZ critically acclaimed drama Power. The Hollywood Reporter has named her one of the top 50 “Power Showrunners,” she was named Ad Week’s “TV Creator of the Year” in 2021, and she has been named one of “The 50 Most Influential Women in America” by Marie Claire Magazine.
Learn from Courtney and from co-chair of the Writer's Guild of America negotiating committee, Chris Keyser (Harvard Law '85), showrunner Chris Ord ’93 and Julia Child Foundation Executive Director Todd Schulkin ’93 what led to one of the largest work stoppages in Hollywood history, how it was resolved and what the future holds for the industry as well as organized labor in America. Chris Keyser: A creator and showrunner beginning in 1994, Mr. Keyser served from 2011-2015 as President of the Writers Guild of America, West. He also served as the co-chair of the 2023 Negotiating Committee, as well as co-chair of the Agency Campaign Negotiating Committee. He currently serves as board member or trustee of Hollywood, Health and Society; The Humanitas Prize; The I Have a Dream Foundation, Los Angeles; and The Entertainment Community Fund.
Chris Ord '93: Chris served as co-executive producer and showrunner on numerous programs for NBC, the CW and the USA Network. He co-wrote the feature film Deck the Halls starring Danny DeVito & Matthew Broderick. Most recently he served as co-Executive Producer and writer with fellow Brown alum Matt Corman '93 on the Marvel series Daredevil on Disney+.
Todd Schulkin '93: Todd serves as Executive Director of the Julia Child Foundation for Gastronomy and the Culinary Arts and was previously an advertising executive at WPP Group and a talent agent at Innovative Artists Talent where he helped discover writer/director Christopher Nolan and sold Nolan's film Memento. Todd is currently serving as Consulting Producer on the Max series Julia starring Sarah Lancashire and David Hyde Pierce and now in its 2nd season. Todd is the son of Bonnie and Carl Schulkin Ph.D.'64 & longtime member of the BCOC board.
