Caroline Shaw is the Artistic Director of this year's Laguna Beach Music Festival, Feb. 14-16, 2025. The Sunday 2/16 concert features her long-time collaborator Gabriel Kahane, Brown '03, where they will perform, among other things, their "large-scale work" Hexagons. Gabriel performed in Orange County "Before the War," as I like to say - I remember an evening with him at the Sage Hill School auditorium.
While neither Kahane nor Shaw is likely to top the pop charts these days, their music is decidedly tonal. It may sound "different" to you, but it isn't as weird as seriality. You can get an idea of what to expect by looking for Kahane or Shaw on YouTube and listening a bit. And, yes, I like it (that does not mean you have to).
